Recently around 40 entrepreneurs have come together and raised ₹2000 crore for a S.T.E.M. university called the Plaksha University. The university will be centered around subjects S.T.E.M. That’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). The university will have goals to promote entrepreneurship, innovation and quality research. The fund for this setup is over four times than the fund allocated for IITs by the government.
Mohali, Punjab: The Plaksha University will be setup in Punjab. Spread over 50 acres of lush green campus in Mohali. This university will be the first of its kind in India, focusing on the upcoming growth fields. With a number of IITs and IIITs, this institution will add more to India’s tech regime.

The project will address India’s largest challenge through applied research and foster an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship. The university will also catalyse around 1,000 startups over a period of time.
Neeraj Aggarwal, chairman of BCG Boston, stated
The entire team of 40 has brainstormed for three years and wish to put in place a vision that advocates the best model in pedagogy, curriculum, culture, faculty, and processes.
Plaksha will aim at promoting students in fields such as core engineering and machine learning. Also, subjects such as artificial intelligence, mathematics, interdisciplinary learning shall be worked on. There are also some ideas to merge the fields of science and liberal arts.

The institution shall have faculty and research teams comprising of academics from Harvard, University of California-Berkeley, MIT, Purdue University and other prominent members.
The institution is created with the aim to put forth science and technology at its core of operations. And thereby bring out the best of entrepreneurs and science enthusiasts from its students. The institution will start by 2021.
